akira has made some beautiful mods in his time. he believes in nothing less than perfection for his work. this, tho, i believe is the epitome of what he can do. it’s the little details that make it so perfect, down to the gamecube logo vent on the back.
completed in june, 2014, this is a sheer thing of beauty.
he worked on and off for 2 years to produce this masterpiece.
features : system – gamecube pal motherboard screen - 4.3” widescreen VGA screen 480 x 272 resolution battery - 6400 mAH batteries (for 3 hours game play) case - atari lynx 2 console, shape preserved as much as possible controller - all original nintendo controls and sticks, full analog trigger (L and R buttons) audio - stereo sound speakers, used 2x iPhone 4 speakers for very clear sound, switching stereo headphone jack, analog volume control
extra goodies: - very silent IBM fan, heavily modified for optimal airflow - retro gamecube blue/purple look paint job with glossy finish - original nintendo component video chip wired to produce VGA out - shielded composite video wire to reduce interference. - wiikey fusion modchip flashed with swiss autoboot firmware - battery indicator with 5 leds to see how much power is left - 128 MB memorycard soldered directly onto the motherboard (gamecube slot-a) - sd gecko adapter to run homebrew and emulators through swiss (gamecube slot-b) - video controls to access display menu and switch between AV (composite) and VGA display - system can play from wall socket while being charged
The next time someone asks me why they should spend the time and effort in making a really nice case, my answer is going to be Akira. He does tend to spend a lot of time on his projects, but if they aren't the best-looking portables in the business...
Currently playing: Skyrim VR, Skylanders 3DS You can call me Dr. Fibb

Yes, when I first saw this, it blew my mind. I could not believe that he fit it in there, and it looks AMAZING! I have a friend who wants to maybe get into portables and he thought about starting with a gamecube one because he loves the GC so much. I need to get him to join this site!
Like a wise man once said, "I am a very wise man."

Ashen has many an awesome mod in his repertoire. this is by far the best wii laptop i've seen in existence, netting Ashen this spot. he likes to get the little details correct, which you can see in the black finish of this laptop.
completed in december, 2014, i would like to have one of these myself.
he originally started on the idea of his own wii laptop back in february of 2012. but, he decided to completely start over and make this awesomeness, with this amazing size screen.
features: system - Nintendo Wii screen - 17" widescreen laptop monitor from a Dell Inspiron 1720 battery - 5000 mAh 14.8v li-poly pack (2+ hours on full charge with everything running, 4.5 hours with just the wii portion running) case - custom made bottom chassis out of wood controller - 4x GC controller ports & normal wii controller usage audio - stereo sound with headphone output extras - a/v out (component only), wii sync button, wii usb port and "built in" removable 500gb usb hdd

this week takes us to SEGA! and what better place to start then with the first sega console? Sam Thornley has a very unique style to his portables. some of you may wonder why i have chosen this for the feature this week. let me tell you why: this is the ONLY sega master system portable ever built (the Handy Gear does not count as it is a game gear with sms converter hard wired on).
completed back in feb/march 2009, it is still, to this day, the one and only known sms portable. and for that, she is gorgeous!
features: system - Sega Master System 2 (with Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in) screen - 5" Psone screen battery - 7.2v 4600mAh NI-MH case - hand built MDF controller - custom made with tacts audio - mono out

continuing on with sega, this week brings us to segasonicfan's Sega CDX Ultima portable. you may wonder why i've chosen this over ben heck's very own cdx portable. and here is the reason: segasonicfan accomplished this back in sept/oct 2004. making this the very first ever made by a landslide! (ben didn't make his till 2011) you can think it's ugly and horribly put together, but it was functional. sadly, it is very difficult to find pictures or information on it these days, as it apparently was stolen from segasonicfan shortly after he made it.
one of the coolest aspects of this portable, is that it has been made compatible with the 32x & power base converter attachments. he also region modded it for use with pal & jap games. that means, this can play almost every single sms, genesis, sega cd, & 32x game in existence! and all on the go!
i found more pics!
the most information about it is found on the ben heck forums. i'm including screen caps of his post over there since the forums are very unstable these days.
"The RGB input on the upper left is a DB-9 connector which can be removed to play RGB 32X! It can also be used to connect S-video and (eventually) I'm going to connect component video "
features: system - sega cdx screen - 5" psone screen using rgb (32x is modded for rgb as well) battery - ? (i cannot find any information - i know it does run off battery tho) case - cdx with psone screen casing(?) and nomad casing cobbled together controller - nomad buttons audio - stereo sound with 2 headphone outputs extras - 50/60hz import switch, jp/us import switch, s-video output, built in fm automatic scan radio, screen on/off switch, system on/off switch, external controller switch (to use a regular genesis controller for 1 player), up to 4 players, plays sms, genesis, sega cd, & 32x games
