As if I don't have enough in-progress projects, what's one more?
Started working on a fairly simple NES (clone) portable. The plan is to take parts I have on hand and make a basic portable without any bells or whistles.
Start with the NOAC portion of my long-dead Retron 3. What's nice is that even though the combo unit is dead, I could still get the NES and SNES boards to work (with help from Bungle's guide).
Although I had put up a guide on this particular NOAC, the images got lost to Photobucket, so I ventured off on my own. 5V input and composite were fairly easy to figure out. Controller data was another story. So I said a quick prayer, made sure my life insurance was up to date, and ventured out to the cancerous wasteland that is Photobucket to retrieve my guide images. Came back relatively unscathed.
Wired the controller port breakout board to the NOAC. I am a magnet wire convert.
Controller connection is great, although the 3rd party controller itself is kind of janky. I already tore it open and didn't notice anything weird with the board, so I think it's just the way the dpad wants to push 2 directions at once.
Time to start some casework, which in time should provide some clarity on this project's name.
