Few years back we had a gameboy competition on bacman's forum. Creating something with gameboy in mind.
Well i never finished it but i still want to. So i picked this up.
Here are some build pics from then..
In my first attempt i wanted RGB display on a vga lcd. But ebay and even Dalian Good Display Co. Didnt like the resolution 480i from the gba tv out adapter.
So i found a 480i to vga scale device. I got it working a fair bit, as you can see in the next picture.
But the whole thing draw way to much power. and i still got issues that i never fixed...
Then i stumbled upon people who got the psone 5 inch lcd working with a gba tv adapter without problem. I never had a screen like that before to try. But i won a set on ebay for a very good price a few months back.
Now i am ready to pick this project up again and make my ultimate gameboy advance.
I soldered up the gba to the tv out board.
Then wired the RGB and C sync to the psone screen and powered everything on.
I am happy that it is finally working , there are some borders but that ok for the screen size i already cut out a few months back.
Now i need to read up on that LED mod and what the best options to do that are. And cut the board up as much a possible. I have seen zenloc and others cut it to be the same size as the screen. But that much isnt even necessary.
Great Work Akira! This is the kind of project that some people would bash you for, because they see an unnecessary amount of work to accomplish something that seems trivial to them, but I think most people fail to see that the person making these things isn't just doing it because its the most practical solution, cause its not, but because they enjoy working on them! I wish more people would be able to appreciate the effort and talent it takes to do the work that you, chevy, fibbef, and countless others do, and realize why we do what we do! Ok, I'm finished with my monologue now... Can't wait to see this finished Akira!
Like a wise man once said, "I am a very wise man."
I think he's just referring to how many people nitpick at modding projects. For this, one might say "it's just a GBA with a bigger screen, what's the big deal?" or "why not just use the Gameboy Player to play on a big screen TV?"
Of course, around here such work is respected.
