I'd like to host a build-off competition but I'd like to know from our members who would be interested in competing. Here are the details:
Theme: Game Boy. That's it. I want to leave it pretty open-ended. The theme simply means that whatever is built must somehow have to do with Game Boy. It could be a 64p shaped like a Game Boy, a GBA SP inside a DMG shell, a Raspi portable intended to look like a Game Boy, a GameCube portable incorporating the Game Boy Player, etc.
Prizes: Yes, I have prizes in mind, also intended to fit the theme. There will be Game Boy handhelds and games, with each prize having a combined value of approximately $50 or more. More details to come later.
Timing and Duration: This is where I most want community feedback. If you'd like to participate in this compo, please say so and when would be a good time to hold the competition. Maybe you're in the middle of a project and won't finish until mid-June. Let me know. Of course I wouldn't be able to accommodate everybody, but if we're able to get enough participants, I'd like to schedule the compo so as to include as many people as possible.
Edit: Updated the title of this thread. Once the date of the competition nears, I'll start a master thread for this compo.
I kind of like the idea. It'd be a really good reason to get off my butt and do my ultimate chiptune DMG with backlight, prosound, a custom keyboard, low battery circuit, and whatever cosmetic stuff I think of. I'm just not too sure on a timeline. I really have no idea what a "good" time would be for me. I'd be glad to just try and jump in on whatever works for most members, though.
I have a GameCube project I've never gotten around to doing yet for whatever reason so I'd be interested in this comp for sure, probably around late may/early June I'd be ready since I'm trying to finish older projects before starting a new one.
Hopefully I get farther this time than I did in the last comp where all I did was Photoshop the verification picture.
Glad to see there's this much interest in this! Either this weekend or early next week I'll post more details on definite start times and pictures of prizes (hoping that may drum up even more interest).
Keep your eye out for more to come!
